We already know that New Year's Day is the deadliest day of the year for pedestrians. There's no mystery why: On a normal day, drunken driving accounts for 32 percent of all traffic accidents — but today, it's a whopping 40 percent. This scary map shows where in the U.S. drunken driving is the biggest problem — basically, the darker blue the area looks, the worse it is. New York City, Memphis, and Salt Lake City fare well, with fewer alcohol-caused accidents, while the Bay Area and Pittsburgh are coated in blue, showing a high rate of sloshed drivers.
